Yummy Tomatoes

We finally got to taste the garden. We had tomatoes and lettuce in a  salad with cheese and ranch dressing. All students tasted the tomatoes and lettuce which was awesome! Many said they wanted to have a salad when they got home. We ate every single piece of the lettuce we grew, they were eating it like rabbits.

We read the book below. It's a story about  a fussy eater but when they changed the name of the fruits and veggies she decided she liked them. For example; tomatoes were actually called moonsquirters!

We have been learning about the Digestive System and how food passes through your mouth, down your esophagus and into your stomach. Ask your child about corn and nutrients? They will likely tell you that corn has no nutrients that's why they show up exactly the same in their poop!! It was an interesting conversation.

We ate the tomato really slow and figured out that it's going to stay in our stomach to turn into mush, then our small intestines take out the nutrients in the tomato and our large intestines take the waste to our bottom:)
The students wanted to know why their poop was brown and not the color of the food they ate.

A student bought this book at the book fair, it went perfectly with our health topic recently.
