Winter Activities and LGT

We dropped everything we were doing in the classroom to run outside and catch the most beautiful snowflakes! The students discussed how the snowflakes were all different.

The worms have arrived!
Our vermicompost is up and running. First we made the worm bedding using soil, and shredded paper. The worms loved their new habitat. We will start to feed them next week and let them start making fertilized soil for our garden!
If you have any compost at home, or even if you wish to save your table scraps such as fruit peelings, egg shells, and coffee grounds, we would love to have you bring it in for our worms!

More prints! Can you guess what animal made these prints?? They were found on our parking lot. Most students guessed it was a bird:).

M is for Marshmallow

We celebrated marshmallow day with some marshmallow painting, measuring and creating structures.

"Stone men"
Students created their own 'stone men' using painted rocks.

We read the story, The Snowy Day, many students remembered this book from Kinderstart.
We went searching for different prints in the snow. We guessed that the prints we saw were from snowshoes and a dog:).

Little Green Thumbs, combinations, reading and writing.

Our garden is growing! We finally have flowers appearing, ask your child what will happen next.

Combinations of 6. There are different ways to make 6, students are required to be able to make a variety of combinations. We will learn number combinations to 10.

Read to Someone.
This is a part of the Daily 5 program. Students began reading to their self in a quiet space in the room. Now, students are learning to read and listen to others.

A winter read the room!

Students have begun writing using word rings.
