Welcome to our Kindergarten Blog!
A lot of our learning in Kindergarten takes place through inquiry based play. Students are given materials (provocations) which is meant to provoke student directed learning. It may look like we are 'just playing' but there is a whole lot happening during play. This blog will give you an idea of how we uncover learning through play.
This week we were learning about shapes and 'All About Me'. Thank you for helping your children develop their all about me bags. It was great to see and hear about their interests.
We read the book 'The Shape of
Things" where students saw the transformation of shapes. A circle turned
into a Ferris wheel and a rectangle turned into a train:). We have been recognizing, tracing and building with shapes.
As you can see in the picture, students are beginning to learn about patterns.
1-1 counting is important in Kindergarten.
This made me chuckle. After I told the students I was interested in fishing, they made fishing rods from straws and found little fish in the room. It was great to see their imagination working overtime!
It is hard to see but in this picture there is a fish in the girls hands.
Look Ms. Reid I made a '4'
We had a great discussion during this center about 'short' and 'tall'. They made a tower that was taller than them.
and finally last week we discussed 'feelings' and self portraits.
Look at those eye brows! This must be a mad face.
This little boy was making a yelling face like in the book.
Happy face and sad face
We traced ourselves with chalk to see what 'shape' we are and to see another form of a self portrait.
