What happens if frogs, turtles, and worms don't sleep during winter?

We have put play creatures in cups of water and placed them outside! We will see what happens to the creatures when the temperature drops! Stay tuned.
Many students estimated 1 or 2 days and the creatures would be frozen.

Poor Mr.Turtle (green) - turned upside down already!! haha

Habitats

Habitats - where the humans and animals live most of the time. We have also been discussing hibernation - a change in their environment during winter.

We read the book 'Home', this storybook came with our new Kindergarten programming. The book showed us a variety of 'homes' for people and animals. For example, a bus could be a home for a band and a nest can be a home for a bird.

We made our own habitat dioramas. Check out the pictures!

Have you ever read this book?

Image result for the snowy day

In the book, the boy takes full advance of a snow day. He makes foot prints in the snow, builds a snowman, makes snow angels, etc.

We decided we may as well enjoy the snow too!

Little Green Thumbs

We have lettuce and kale!! Unfortunately, tomatoes and cucumbers take more time to grow, but we did make a salad with the kale and lettuce. Students could not get enough of the yummy greens. Some even had 3 plates!

They tasted delicious! Look how healthy they look!

Digging in!

Lined up for more salad!

Hibernation

Who didn't enjoy making caves/forts as kids?

Before the 'bears' entered the cave, they needed to fill their bellies with food for the winter. The cave needs to be dark, the bears will be sleeping.

Above are the remains of the food they ate before going in the cave.

How do you spell sleep?

Building their own caves. Take note of the book 'Hibernation Station' - excellent book that describes what animals hibernate.

We started a K, W, L chart for hibernation. K - What we know, W - What we want to know, L- What we learned.
Students knew that bears sleep in caves, and they eat berries and fish before they go into hibernation. They wanted to know if bears eat nuts and apples?
We learned that bears will eat nuts if they are hungry!

Marshmallow Day!

Marshmallows are not only tasty but educational as well.
