We had two special guest visit our classroom and they made Goop with us!
We talked about recipes and what ingredients we needed to make Goop.

Goop
- Corn Starch
- Dish Liquid
- Hand Soap

Try it at home! It's very similar to playdoh.

Cutting a pizza into triangles

Making prints

Making the letter H

 More prints

Igloos - Ask your child what the first letter is in the word igloo. We are learning that i sometimes sounds like e. It gets confusing!

Even the big kids wanted in on the action!

Yummy Tomatoes

We finally got to taste the garden. We had tomatoes and lettuce in a  salad with cheese and ranch dressing. All students tasted the tomatoes and lettuce which was awesome! Many said they wanted to have a salad when they got home. We ate every single piece of the lettuce we grew, they were eating it like rabbits.

We read the book below. It's a story about  a fussy eater but when they changed the name of the fruits and veggies she decided she liked them. For example; tomatoes were actually called moonsquirters!

We have been learning about the Digestive System and how food passes through your mouth, down your esophagus and into your stomach. Ask your child about corn and nutrients? They will likely tell you that corn has no nutrients that's why they show up exactly the same in their poop!! It was an interesting conversation.

We ate the tomato really slow and figured out that it's going to stay in our stomach to turn into mush, then our small intestines take out the nutrients in the tomato and our large intestines take the waste to our bottom:)
The students wanted to know why their poop was brown and not the color of the food they ate.

A student bought this book at the book fair, it went perfectly with our health topic recently.

Survival 101

We were having a discussion about weekend plans and going to the cabin. From this conversation the students decided they will learn to keep warm by having a camp fire, just in case they get lost in the woods;)
We had a great fire safety conversation during this provocation.

They built a barrier to keep the 'fire' from spreading. They used red recycled paper as the 'fire'. They built the fire up like a triangle to get the air to flow through.

One student pretended a marker was a can of hair spray! We then had to discuss what is safe to use in a fire - a hair spray can was NOT one of them!!

Take note of the 'marshmallow' on the straw :)

Look at our first pea pod!

Flowers will soon bloom on our Purple Pole Beans! The plant has now reached the ceiling.

We counted red tomatoes recently for our LGT  journals. They look delicious!

The students are feeling lucky this week!

Finding objects to trace 'gold coins'

They worked together to build a rainbow and a pot of gold. We did not have any purple paper so a student problem solved and colored a sheet of paper purple! They were very proud of their work. They also completed a writing activity -'I am lucky because...'

Pollinating cucumbers in kindergarten was an interesting day indeed!

It's hard to see in the picture but the cucumber is 3 blocks long.

A red tomato, every knows what that means!
We will have a mini salad on Monday to taste our lettuce.

We can write...and we love it!!!

Sometimes writing happens with a pencil, sometimes with a crayon and sometimes it even happens with clay!!! Writing is so much fun when we explore fun ways to do it! In kindergarten, we are starting to put our sight words into sentences! Check out our sentences below:

We've been celebrating in Kindergarten. We celebrated the penny and Dr.Seuss's birthday!
If you find a penny, pick it up, it's lucky!

Making Dr.Seuss puppets to retell the story, The Cat in the Hat. We can thank Dr.Seuss for teaching us how to rhyme!

A student made 'Cupcake Crayons' and shared them with the class. They were so cool!

Fire presentation from firefighter Tom. Did you check your fire alarms lately?

Talk to your child about 911!
