Hibernation

Who didn't enjoy making caves/forts as kids?

Before the 'bears' entered the cave, they needed to fill their bellies with food for the winter. The cave needs to be dark, the bears will be sleeping.

Above are the remains of the food they ate before going in the cave.

How do you spell sleep?

Building their own caves. Take note of the book 'Hibernation Station' - excellent book that describes what animals hibernate.

We started a K, W, L chart for hibernation. K - What we know, W - What we want to know, L- What we learned.
Students knew that bears sleep in caves, and they eat berries and fish before they go into hibernation. They wanted to know if bears eat nuts and apples?
We learned that bears will eat nuts if they are hungry!
