We got a little dirty, sorry!

We did have  a lot of fun though:)

The students were archaeologist! They used paint brushes to brush away the sand in hopes of finding a hidden bug! 

Building towers and going on a hunt to find items that are shorter and longer than their tower. 

We are encouraging students to talk in 'math language'. Which means their math sentence for this concept would be; my tower is shorter than...and my tower is taller than...

"my tower is shorter than the super kid chair"

We had some parents join us to make a snowman craft and drink hot chocolate. 

They really felt like they were being adults by drinking out of the 'coffee' cups!

Tall and Short

Tall and Short

Goals were to find trees that was taller than, shorter than, and equal to themselves. Most students found trees that were taller than them but found it hard to find a tree that was the same size. 

They then began looking at other things outside like the fence, poles, buildings, and began to compare them to their height. 

We wanted students to create a math sentence... 'The tree is taller than me'. A lot of important words in that sentence!

"This tree is shorter than me" 

"These bushes are shorter than me"

"This tree is shorter than both of us"

It stopped raining!!!!

Students were excited to get outside this afternoon. We used our bodies as attributes in a pattern.

Can you guess what our pattern is? 

Team work at its finest. We worked together to build letters with our bodies. 

This is a 'H'. 

We used chalk to outline our 'body letters'.

The girls are making a 'T'.

The boys made an 'I'.

Cleaning out the pumpkin seeds, we need to count them! 

Ms.Spurrell gave us a lesson on the Dragon Fruit. It was yummy and students couldn't get enough. 

Why is it called Dragon Fruit?

'because dragons made them' 

Some students really wanted to try it but first had to pick the seeds out:). It was a big job!

We have been learning about spiders since Halloween. We went on a spider hunt. 

Did you know their web is sticky! It's what catches the bugs for the spiders to eat. 

We asked the question 'Who is afraid of spiders?' We tallied the results. 

We found a big black spider! It has 8 legs and it was really fast!

We learned to draw a spider and make a web from GEO Boards. 

We kept our spider in a habitat. The students put rocks, sticks, leaves, water and bugs in the spider habitat.
