St. Patrick's Week!

The St.Patrick's holiday was celebrated for an entire week in Kindergarten! They used coins to make 10 frames, they designed rainbows, made leprechaun traps, counted coins, and much much more!

We discussed primary colors (red, blue and yellow). The students learned if you add colors together you make others colors! This was demonstrated using the rainbow!

Red and blue mix together to make purple!
Yellow and Blue mix together to make green!
Red and yellow mix together to make orange!

The students wondered what would happen if we mixed all the colors together... so we tried it!

We got the color brown!

The sneaky leprechaun showed up and made a mess in the room! We caught him in our trap but one of the students said he turned to paper when he hit the coins!! (HA)

Vowels!

Students are learning that vowels have two sounds! This is very tricky! They used sound boxes to sort the two vowel sounds for a,e,i,o,u.

Coins!

During our coin unit we opened up a store!

Earth!

The students started asking questions about Earth and the solar system. During Dr.Seuss week we discussed the importance of keeping our earth safe! They were really concerned about people cutting down all the trees and taking away our oxygen source (The Lorax movie).

This is the moon and the sun!

Then from this inquiry students began to ask questions about volcanoes... so we went to the library and got some books about volcanoes. A student had a volcano kit at home so he brought it in for us to explore!

Habitats

Students were exploring different habitats for creatures. Below are some dioramas of their creations.

One student said this was Madagascar!

The beach!

ART!

In the kindergarten curriculum students are asked to explore a variety of artistic concepts.
Texture is one of those concepts!
